Take Care Of Yourself Girl !

So here I am, tired and exhausted after working my 5th 12 hour ER shift. It was a terrible day and I was beyond drained. Im laying in bed, scrolling through Netflix, so excited to return to Season 1 episode 8 of Gossip Girl (yes I'm watching it for the third time) and all of a sudden I was unable to do anything! I couldn’t scroll up, I couldn’t scroll left, I couldn’t type, nothing! Super annoying right? I laid there thinking, did I have extra batteries? Did I even have the energy to get up and replace them? Did I want to? Eventually, I had to use the bathroom so I decided to kill two birds with one stone ; use the bathroom and find battery replacements. I found it ! Laying on the table, 2 triple A batteries. My frustration quickly turned back into excitement, I now had hope. I’m like yes! I get to tune back into Gossip Girl. So here I am, super excited to switch the batteries out only to find out those batteries didn’t work either. Now I'm annoyed again, sitting here with a lifeless remote. A remote that was working so well for me for the past 4 months, was now dead. I sat on the edge of my bed, looked at my reflection in the tv and I looked so similar to that remote. ..Girl I was so exhausted!

As most nurses typically do, I work 12 hour shifts. While most work 3 12 hour shifts in a row, I do 5 so I’m able to have more off in a row. Working 5 12 hour shifts in a row, is so draining. By the time I reach day 4, your girl is Double D : Done and Drained. All I want to do is crawl into bed and lay there for the next 365 days, haha. [My friends tell me I'm dramatic all the time], but no for-real thats how I truly feel.

Whether you’re a nurse or a cashier, self care and rejuvenation is super important. It helps reduce stress, allows for mental clarity, and most importantly, gives you the motivation to keep trucking along in life. Contrary to what many may think, self care doesn’t always have to equal to monetary value. Sometimes the best things in life are free ☺

Although recharging is necessary for everyone, it's okay for your routine to be individualized. Take the time out to come up with things that make you happy and give you the energy to be the best you that you can be.

There are few must haves in my weekly and monthly recharge routine. For starters, I like to binge watch tv shows on Netflix. Everyone who knows me, knows that I do 👏 not 👏 like movies, I am so much more a series girl. Probably explains why I’m on my third re run of Gossip Girl now. Secondly, I like to visit my massage therapist at least once a month for a 60 minute full body deep tissue massage. Now, many people do not enjoy deep tissue massages because of the pressure that is delivered throughout, but I LIVE for them okay?! When I get off that table I feel like a new woman honey, ready to conquer the world. In addition to massages, I enjoy little leisure activities like, visiting my esthetician, doing my nails, cooking, and visiting Home Goods. Am I the only person that loves house shopping? 😂. Anyways, then I have mind simulating things that allow me to feel recharged as well, such as writing down my thoughts. I have big dreams and big plans; therefore my mind is constantly running! Writing these things down in a book gives my mind more room to create and it also gives me the satisfaction of being able to see them on paper. Lastly and most importantly ;traveling . I travel so much because I don’t think anything helps me recharge more than that. Whether it’s a week long trip or a weekend trip, bet your last dollar I'm visiting somewhere new at least once a month. Something about the change of scenery does the soul good.

So moral of the story, figure out what works for you! Implement a schedule to allow you to do these things often so you don’t end up like my batteries: dead and lifeless 😂.
