Typically, when people meet me, and they find out my age and what I do for a living and for how long I’ve been doing it … they’re in disbelief, lol. Its always “Stop lying !” or “Why a nurse ? Why not a doctor?” So its only right I start this first blog off answering this question and touching on this topic.
If you’ve read my “about me” then you know the technical reason already for why I became a nurse. If you don’t know, or you haven’t read it, stop here go read it and then come back. Briefly, I didn’t really know too much of what I wanted to do, but I knew I loved science and I loved the women’s reproductive system. That’s it. Now again some of you may ask, “well why not be a doctor?” Believe it or not, I wasn’t one of those students who strayed away from being a doctor because of the amount of time I would have to be in school, or because of the cost of tuition, shoot I didn’t even know the necessary steps to actually becoming a nurse. Funny story, I actually applied to Barry University in Miami, Florida for their pre med program, in addition to the four nursing programs I applied to. Safe to say your girl was confused! And to really be honest with you, I’m not sure why I chose nursing school over pre med. But once I started I was certain it was the right decision.
At this point I could give you a series of reasons why I prefer nursing over being a physician. If you’re reading this post, looking for advice on which career path you should choose: doctor or nurse, teacher or lawyer, runway model or fashion stylist, McDonalds or burger king I say this... be smart, plan for your future but don't forget to live for your "right now" aka your present. What good is the future if you let all of this moment that you’re living in right now pass you by. Maybe your "right now" and your future has two different paths, and maybe they align and you know what that’s okay. Don’t forget about your present, chasing your later. Maybe in the future, I’ll decide to become an Emergency Nurse Practitioner (surprisingly I have a story for this too), but for right now I’m madly in love with my career and I’m learning to love my “now”. See you guys in the next post!
